Delta Rivermania is a Fall 2008, 3 day event, September 26, 27, 28th that is part of the one month Rivermania celebration launching August 24, 2008 in Prince George, British Columbia. This event commemorates our province's "sesquicentennial"- that being its 150th anniversary since colonization.
BC Rivermania is the provincial event. Celebrations include the historic symbolic trip down the Fraser River exploring the route taken by Simon Fraser 200 years earlier. The project will span the river from Prince George to Richmond creating a "ripple effect" of local festivals and celebrations. The composition of the fleet will change at community stops along the way. River communities will be spotlighting their unique character with tailor made special events.
Delta, near the end of the river, will host major local activities including flotilla parades, free breakfast, historical horse and buggy rides, a moonlight market, music, entertainment, theatrical performances and aboriginal cultural displays. A highlighted activity will be the 1858 "re-enactment" of the Ladner Brothers being led into the safety of the sleugh off the Mighty Fraser river by the First Nations.
Delta's tourism has been promoted through the parent body of Rivermania and has been marketed throughout North America and Europe by the Vancouver Coast and Mountain Region, Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association and Northern BC Tourism Association.
